For the essay you need to critically review Kidd et al. (2013) Rational snacking: Young children’s decision-making on the Marshmallow Task is moderated by beliefs about environmental reliability. Cognition, 126(1), 109-114.
This task involves providing a brief summary of the journal article and then providing a discussion of the study’s support for the claims made and results. Your position on the essay, whether you are arguing if Kidd et al.’s (2013) study is a strong or weak piece of research, is up to you. You must ensure you reference at least 5 primary references (including Kidd et al., 2005) and provide a succinct and coherent argument to critically review the journal article.
Things to consider when conducting your reading and summarising the paper:
– Identify the research aims, measures used and key findings.
– What are Kidd et al.’s key arguments?
– How does Kidd et al.’s research build on the existing literature/previous studies?
– What evidence do Kidd et al. base their arguments on? (i.e. what research did they undertake, and what were their key findings?)
– What are the limitations of this work and how could/were these overcome in future research?
– How does the study add to our knowledge and how could this inform future research?
